DIY Decorate your own Coffee Mugs... Harry Potter Edition

You'll need:
  • Plain white coffee mugs (mine are from World Market $3.99)
  • Black sharpie
  • Oven
  1. The most important step! Plan & attempt your design on paper before writing on the mug!
  2. Using the Sharpie, write on the mug.  Be careful not to smear for the first few minutes after writing.
  3. Set design by cooking in the oven.  Do this by putting the mugs on a cookie sheet (upside down for a wider base) and putting in the oven that has not pre-heated.  Turn over up to 350 degrees and cook for 30 minutes.  When done, turn oven off and crack oven door to vent out hot air, leaving mugs in to cool.
The mugs are top rack dishwasher safe but staying on the safe side, handwashing is best.

I made two mugs for a friend.  The first said, "Happiness is found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light... and the tea kettle."  A little Dumbledore quote with a little twist :)  The inside was the grim tea leaves made by just dotting with the Sharpie.

My second mug was Marauder's Map themed.  The outside read, "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good," and had a bunch of tiny footprints you see on the map.  The inside said "Mischief managed" with the same footprints disapparating.
