Why a Devotional has made our Marriage Stronger...

Ephesians 5:31:
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,
and the two will become one flesh.

The wedding coordinator at our wedding venue site gave us the best wedding gift of anything we received. A husband-friendly devotional...

Set up for one devotional a week for the year and each chapter only 3-4 pages long, it's easy to do.  Although we've gotten behind sometimes and had to play catch up, this book has helped us transition into life together, balancing work, family, school, and friends, and helping us understand and be more open in love and respect.

If you've ever read the Bible cover to cover (which I'm happily bragging I'm about to finish that task for the second time) or have just read small parts of it, you can see how often marriage is brought up.  That's why when we think of marriage, it's not between Eric & me, it's a triangle between me, Eric, and God.  On the inside of Eric's ring, I had engraved "Matthew 19:  4-6":  "...that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female, and said, "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."  So they are no longer two, but one flesh.  Therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate."

The devotional has taught us a lot about remembering who the other person is, how they do things, how they think, live, and process information.  It's been most helpful during conflicts when it's become easier to understand why each of us are thinking the way we are, not only because of male-female differences in thinking, but how we were molded by our families and friends.  I love that the chapters sometimes correspond only to the wife, or only to the husband, or both.  It's been an even mix to not feel like it's geared toward one person in the relationship.

I feel that because of this book, we've become closer to each other and to God.  We've gone to church every Sunday that I haven't been working or the few trips we've had.  I can't say that's happened since I was in elementary school or earlier.  My favorite part of the devotional and our marriage so far has been seeing my husband get closer with God and learn more about His word.

Things I'm Currently Obsessed With...

I can't seem to get enough of certain things right now...

Reading my National Geographic magazines

The Frozen soundtrack, and the movie! If you haven't seen it yet, you need to.

My Kindle. I was a little skeptical about if I would like one because I like seeing the books on my shelf and didn't know if staring at a screen would hurt my eyes or give me a headache.  I can actually read my Kindle in the car without getting a headache, which I can't do with a hard book.

Currently reading Little Women, and so into it!

Going to Zumba and having a great time burning a ton of calories

The Olympics and the USA's opening ceremony outfits. I must get my hands on these sweaters, considering my favorite colors that I end up wearing are always red, white, and blue!
